my life is turning blue

I told you Koda Bear changed his favorite colour over the weekend.  Light blue.  

The cakes now have to be blue.  It is odd.  Especially when I toast my slice so the outside is almost black.  You bite into the cake and there is this intense blue contrast.  It is just a little unsettling.  Tastes lovely but visually unsettling.

This weekend was really odd.  Next weekend I start traveling again.  I will not have internet access for over a week.  I am so excited.  I am exhausted and need some rest.   I am hoping I can lay down in  a tent with a book for a few hours.  But I am not sure that is even a possibility.  Koda Bear has talked about traveling in the car just so he can sleep.  That is the type of tired I am.  

I am going to stop by Ragfinery to find fabric for Christmas presents.  That is my ambition for next week.  This week is all about getting stuff done for traveling.  Simple stuff.

for the tall short person

All the squares are done.  

The Tall Short Person mentioned she needed a portable hug last spring so I took some time to find fabrics I though she would like.  Her favourite colours now which seem to be every changing.  Patterns and themes that do not change.  I got it laid out this weekend.

The colours are a little bright for me but it is not for me.

I have ideas about the back.  I am going with something very different there.  Very her but very different.  It will be interesting to see how it will turn out.

not a lot of concentration

I was feeling okay on Friday until late afternoon.  Then the cold hit.  And it is still hanging on.  

I found that I just wanted to sit in my rocking chair and read or lay in bed in read.  Because when I was not reading I was sleeping.  There were a few minutes where I was spinning and this yarn was created.  I pulled out a crochet hook and started a shawl.  It is one of those few things that I seem to have the energy and concentration for.  Whenever I try to do something at a normal speed, I have to slow way down and my head get fuzzy easily.  I will get better.  And hopefully there will be more yarn made and more work on the shawl done.

I am so ready for autumn

While I was making the last quilt, I bought myself some black and chocolate brown linen.

I put the brown linen together in a sheath dress in very little time.  It has become my go to dress around the house.

Dark colours.  Solids.  It is what I want to wear right now.  Like I said, I know it will change but right now it makes me happy.

After this week, black may be the only colour.  My cold is still not better.  And I have not had enough time on my sewing machine to let me feel sane.  The spinning wheel yes, not the sewing machine.  I am making yarn for a shawl I am working on.  It should be very pretty.

when red was the favorite color, a week ago

A week ago, Koda Bear's favorite colour was red.  Now, it is light blue.  But, between the three days he changed his favorite colour he asked for a red cherry cake.

I decided to make him a red cherry buckle.  I used my blackberry buckle recipe, but I used 10 ounces of dark cherries and red food coloring.  A sprinkle of granulated sugar before baking just like with the blackberries.

Because of the fruit, it takes almost an hour and half to bake.  I sprinkled it with powdered it with sugar for a finish.

The small bear liked the cake.  I would say the cherries did not add much flavor, more texture.  Those who liked the cake, seemed to be very pleased.  Me?  The plain version or the blackberry is my favorite cake if I have to have cake but I am not a cake fan.  I find I toast it and then I like it better.  I do not know why but it is what I do.  Oh well.

The favorite color is light blue now.  There is a blue cake in the house.
