not having to think

Yesterday, I was under the weather.  That may be an understatement but that is what I am going to say.  I needed to work on a prototype for a larger knife roll yesterday but that did not happen.  Thinking was not working very well.  So I pieced a quilt back.

I do not have to think much about that.  Hope the colours work.  I have to figure out the configuration I need to get enough fabric.  Most of the time, a solid piece of fabric is not the most interesting.

I think it turned out well but it is always a guess.  There are green fabrics that are so dark they feel almost black.  The larger pieces of blue are quite bright in their own fashion even though I do believe they are an old thrifted bit of fabric.  Vintage does not always mean dull or faded colours!

I am going to work going to work on that prototype today.  I may be off to help with an event tomorrow depending on how I feel.  And of course, Koda Bear comes back from his Dad's.  I miss him.  I will not say any of this is easier when he is around but I can say there is much more joy.  Much more time for books and walks.  He is good about saying he is hungry and it is time to eat.  Which I am not.  I do have much to learn from the small bear.

for the tall short person

All the squares are done.

The Tall Short Person mentioned she needed a portable hug last spring so I took some time to find fabrics I though she would like.  Her favourite colours now which seem to be every changing.  Patterns and themes that do not change.  I got it laid out this weekend.

The colours are a little bright for me but it is not for me.

I have ideas about the back.  I am going with something very different there.  Very her but very different.  It will be interesting to see how it will turn out.

with the help of laughter

The quilt top I was working on got basted and quilted on in record time.  I have to admit that part of that was due to me laughing.  I checked out Big Bang Theory from the library.  Laughing at the science jokes made this go much faster then normal.  And I did not have help from small hands.

This week has been fairly stressful at work.  I hope to bind this quilt off this weekend.  I may try to head to the beach tomorrow with a board if there are no thunderstorms.  Cook at the beach.  Drink tea.  Surf.  Sounds like great stress relief is there is actually surf.  I might head out anyhow.  I just need a break.

Time for hand stitching and laughter.  I checked out the first season of Big Bang Theory from the library yesterday.  So I go them in the wrong order!  I still get to watch them.  Makes me smile.

getting ready for quilting

I did get the back done for this quilt.  And I got it basted ready for quilting.  Then I fell asleep for three hours.  This ear infection is just hanging on.  The allergy component is probably what is doing it but the stress of work is not helping.

I am still working on things that seem to take forever so I am not feeling very creative.  Even what I am doing for baking right now feels "routine."  I am trying to get caught up with bread from when I was gone.  I have baked everyday.  Between work and sleeping.  I described myself as fading around the edges today because that is how I feel.  By the end of the day, fading at the edges.

I am obviously more then a bit frustrated!  It will get better and maybe I will get more inspired.  Or at least projects will get finished.  The actual quilting of this quilt will be a work out.  I will need to be less faded.

back of a tree

I finished the back for the tree quilt.  Our Christmas tree.  The boyos are actually pretty excited about it.

The boyos are so excited that they even helped me with the basting.  My hands are a pretty swollen mess after a day of computer work and then many safety pins but this quilt is ready!

I will probably not start quilting until next week.  The plan for the long weekend is camping.  But the weather may be wet and cold.  I do not mind cold camping at all.  I am tired of wet camping.  Unless I can sleep all day, which I may.  Warm sleeping bag.  Book.  Dry inside the tent.  It could work.

If we decide not to go camping because of weather, I am working on this this weekend.  I might have a "tree" up before to long into Advent.
