Miss Lillian's quilt is delivered

I finished the binding on Miss Lillian's quilt and got it delivered this weekend.

I know she is much to little to appreciate it yet, except maybe for the bright colors.  But Mama liked it!  Both sides.  Both families sat and chatted a while after the delivery.  A nice close to the weekend.

And thanks Grandma for the book!

quilting done

Last night we went to Cirque Du Soliel.  We like them.  I think we all wish we were that strong or that flexible or both.  I really like the aerial silks.  This one did not have any but it did not mean I did not enjoy it.  I know of a class that is taught here in town and I keep thinking I will take it.  Maybe for Christmas or my birthday.

Also, my whole schedule changed this week.  Skating has been on the same evening for years and the rink cut back hours where I can skate.  I had to move rinks and times.  It makes this week feel very strange.  I know I will get used to it over time but it will take time.

Even with all the different and change, I finished the quilting!  I am currently putting the binding on (and working on another quilts pieces and making receiving blankets for a gift and .... you should see the list!).  I hope to have a few quiet minutes tomorrow to finish the binding.  Then a bicycle ride or a skateboard ride to deliver it to Miss L.

This is if it does not rain!  Just another twist.

pining and stitching

After I got the back of the quilt done, I got to pining.  Pinned the whole quilt.  I have learned that it is really best to start from the middle and work your way out.  In the beginning, it feels like the pining is going very rapidly, but by the edges I always start to wonder how much longer it will take.

Once all the pining is done, the stitching starts.  With where my head is right now, this is about where my thought process is.  The nose running away from me appears to have turned into an ear infection and maybe even a summer cold.  I feel like crud but a bit of stitching helps.  I feel bad about being in the kitchen with the amount of sneezing that is going on!

a bit of work done this weekend

I took a childrens Benadryl after work today.  I can feel it making me loopy.  I am not sure that allergies are my problem but something is making my nose runaway with me.  I am hoping that I feel better soon.

I finished this quilt back this weekend.  It has LOTS of color.  It is growing on me as I work with it.

roasted summer squash

I lived through the time where every resturant seemed to make the vegetable of the day steamed summer squash.  The first few time, it was fine.  I came to really not like it though.  I just stopped eating it because it was so mediocre.

The corner grocery was giving samples of summer squash, raw, with a bit of olive oil, salt, and oregano.  I found it was quite good.  Therefore, it is the preperation that I did not like.  Since I like so many vegetables roasted, I decided to give them a try.  Quite good.  I like them on the brown and crispy side though.  If they are not, it is like eating the squash steamed.  A bit better, but still!

roasted summer squash

1 small squash per person

a bit of oil to cover the pan or baking sheet (I used olive)

a sprinkle of salt, pepper, and oregano

Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit.

Thinly slice the squash.  Put the oil on the baking sheet and spread.  Place the squash in a single layer across the pan (really works best, takes longer other wise).  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Bake for about 25 minutes.  Stir every ten.  Make sure you watch these because they will go quickly when they are done.

The squash was quite lovely with a bit of salmon.
