linen dress

I was reading a blog called Remodilsta and they did a piece on house dresses.  Dresses to wear at home instead of living in pajamas or nightgowns.  Dresses that you could wear out on an errand.  I remembered that I had looked at some similar on a Japanese clothes site.

This is very similar to one of the Japanese dresses I had looked at in the past.  I did not put the pockets in it that the pictures show that the dress I could have bought had.  I also did not make a undershift or a petticoat.  I am not sure which it was.  I still might.  The buttons down the back means I would not be able to wear it at all currently.  My shoulders still do not stretch that much with out a great amount of pain.  I could have gathered it less by cutting a smaller skirt but I did not.

The thing I like about this dress is how soft the linen is.  Since I am not feeling well, having something soft to wear that still looks fairly nice.  A dress that is comfortable when you are still at work but wish to be home in bed.  I might have to buy more of this linen.  I am finding my favorite dresses are linen and wool.  Who would have thought?

next is sassafras

In the evenings I spin.  We watch videos.  I spin.  Small Mister yells "spinning wheel"  when my wheel comes out.  Sometimes it is just a spinning wheel.  He loves to work the treadle.  On my sewing machine too!  Sometimes it is many other things.  A pirate captian's wheel.  A race course for McQueen.  Part of the flight path or airstrip for his many planes.  I

understand more and more how women used to spend all winter spinning for their family.  That does not even include the time for making something with the yarn that is produced!  Last week, I finished the merino yak yarn I was spinning.

I am about to start on the dyed portion of Sassafras.  I have a very dark brown fleece I really wish to work with but Sassafras is next.  This fleece was dyed with normal fabric dyes and avocado.  That is why there are to tones.  Then, I will deliver or ship it to Mrs. J.  Mr. J is not going to want to go into the yarn room!

I have an update on my health.  I seemed to have caught a bug going around work that is described as interesting by doctors.  In another words, they do not know what it is.  I am hoping with enough rest I will be pretty much okay.  Otherwise, getting to and from the mountain and working on the mountain is going to be very, very interesting.  Maybe I get to be a slug!  Too bad I have not built a chair for up there yet!

and delivered

I finished the quilt while sitting in my nightgown and watching action movies.  I rather like action movies.

But then I admit that my movie watching pleasure is very eclectic.  Stitching the binding on was what was needed.

I got the quilt delivered today and the couple I gave it to seemed quite pleased.  I already have a hundred squares ready for the next one.  I just need some quiet time to lay it out.  Small Mister is not much help at this stage in his life.

quilting done

The quilting is done on the quilt I have been working on.  Since my energy level is so low, the idea of stitching bindings on is good.  My Beloved got into poison ivy again and we both seem to be fighting a bug.  We both need much more sleep.  Small Mister really does not allow that so we do the best we can.  There is not a lot of energy for extras.  That includes being creative at times.  The idea of putting binding on is about where my creativity currently sits.

saag paneer

The other dish my Beloved likes so well at our favorite Indian restaurant is saag paneer.  When I did some research, I found out saag means greens.  Any greens.  Not just spinach.  We used a mixture of greens from the garden.

It turned out well.  I keep running out of spices so next time will a bit different.  More flavor but this is still good.  My Beloved really likes this when he has eggs in the morning.  He scrambles the eggs and saag paneer together.  I am more the side by side person.  It is a definite make again.

saag paneer

a large handful of greens.  We used broccoli, amaranth, radish, and chard, finely chopped.  The recipe called for six cups but I am sure we did not have that much

2 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 morita chili, minced

1/4 to 1/3 cup cream

1/2  to 1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1/4 teaspoon ancho

7 ounces of paneer, cut into chunks

Put a skillet on the stove over medium heat.  Pour in the olive oil.  Heat.  Add the garlic and let start to brown.  Add the greens and let start to cook down.  The recipe said about 15 minutes and that is about what it takes.  Add the cream.  I started with a little and added a bit more.  Add the cheese.  Mix well.  Cover the skillet and let cook for about 15 minutes.  The greens will be less soupy and the cheese will be hot.

My Beloved said one of the things he liked about this was that it was not too dairyey (his word).

It is really yummy with dal and rice.
