a too big hat for an expected small person

One of my co-worker's wife is expecting a small person in early September.  Since they are from Angola, I decided to make the expected small person a hat and some receiving blankets.

The blankets are still in the process of being made but the hat is done.  I know this hat is too big but by January it may fit better.  It is when it really gets cold here.

This expected person may make an early appearance so I am trying to get the rest of the present bits done this weekend.  It is a weekend of making gifts because I have to get ready for a wedding shower as well.  Now, if I only felt better!  Face is less sore but I still have no energy and my nose is stuffed and snotty.  Mabye there will be more energy tomorrow!

sewing for adventuring

The adventuring this last long weekend was fun but I came back not feeling well.  Well, it could be the screen door I walked into and the bone bruise that is coming up.  You know that excuse you hear, "I walked into the door."  Somehow in my grace, in a campground in Indiana, I caught a screen door with my toe and walked straight into the screen door on it shortest side.  With my face.  More specifically, my cheek bone and eye socket.  They hurt.  And I think I have a cold on top of it.

Weeks before, I took my Beloved to the fabric store with me.  He helped me pick out the three fabrics in the picture above.  I admit that I could wear black every day but he does like me in colors.  These do not stress me out.  And if my black pinnie is clean.  Life is grand!  I still have black on!  You call me silly, it is oky.

I made these dresses and wore them around the Indianapolis Speedway as I chased after the Small Mister.  Most of the time he was a motorbike.  We were at the MotoGP motorcycle races so it makes sense.  We had fun and it was good adventuring.

We stopped and saw family on the way home.  I just to heal now from being a klutz!  My head hurts so bad.

in the garden

We had some unseasonably cool days this weekend.  Not saying it was not warm or even hot, because it was.  It just was not in the upper 90's or low 100's like it normally is.  I was able to get some time in the garden.

I tried to get in the garden one evening but the mossie bites I got!  My Beloved was horrified at the mossie bites I got.  I got wiped down with witch hazel and that really helped.  The next morning was a huge difference.

Mornings have many less misquitoes.  I still get bitten by ants but the mossy bites do no happen in such large quantities.  This is why I do not garden during the week. I only have time when I get most bitten.  I did get my small patch of grass mowed and weeds pulled.  I have started the process of getting ready for the winter garden.  Seeds ordered.  Thoughts about what I wish to plant.  Beds are started to be made.

We are off adventuring though and my garden will be untended for over a week.  Not unusual for this time of year but I feel like I need to figure out how to harvest and cook weeds.  They are mostly grasses so it does not work.  But the zinnias are beautiful and brighten my day.  Hopefully there will be more when we get back.

i need more time!

Thursday, our internet went down for a few hours.  I gave myself a digital holiday.  We have a crazy two months coming.

We bought a "new" car last week too!  We have only been talking about getting something smaller then a large truck for seven years.  But as our needs have changed, our large two wheel drive truck just does not work on the mountain.  We got a small all wheel drive vehicle that will be good for the mountain but also good for errands around town.

Now, if we could only keep our old suburban healthy.  It gets us places it should not and gets us home.  But I should not complain.  We are the third owners and next year it will be old enough to drink!  We will have two vehicles with that mile marker then.

This does mean I am saving my pennies for the "house truck" I wish to build.  I read an article about how small farms really need a truck that is larger then the average pickup.  Even the large pickups.  That is what I am saving for.  My Beloved is plotting ways we can also put a house on the back for me, especially in places where we may be snowboarding and there is a need for tea!

This space may be a bit neglected over the next couple of months.  And I am afraid my sewing machine will be neglected too!  We will be galavanting and I got invited to an out of town wedding.  I may be taking my surfboard with me.

I am obviously rambling.  I need more time in my garden, at my sewing machine, and at my spinning wheel.  But the boyos have plans!  And there is work.  I do what I can.

quilt top for L

The quilt top for L is put together.  Even with all the activities with all the boyos.  I would write down that list but it makes me very tired.  We were so busy last week.  It was hard to find quiet time for anything.

Now, I need to finish the back.  My quilts really are two quilt in one....
