for fire

One of the most exciting things about the trip was that this fire pit was created.  The Tall Short Person brought a friend.  He brought himself and his daughter.  It was an interesting trip.

The first full day we were there, he created this fire pit.  And benches!  We actually had someplace to sit.  With the rain that came later in the week, it was nice to be off the ground.  The fire pit gave us a place to warm.  It did bring out all the pyromaniacs in the family.  We found out my mother likes fire as much as the rest of us.  Who knew?  This is a dry stack rubble ring so we will always continue to have to rebuild.  I am collecting more rocks for a house too so there will always be interesting piles.

We also introduced the kids and my Beloved to S'mores.  My Beloved had never had them which surprised me with as much camping as he did as a child and teen.  Things that get missed.

Another interesting fact.  This fire pit is more then the previous owner did on the land for the nine to ten years he owned the property.  Especially since this sits in the middle of a clearing that we created.  It is just interesting what different priorities people have.

on the land (and computer is down again)

We were on the land again last week.  All the tree cutting we did in March was moved by a D7.  This is what we have now.  Space.  A place to put a shed and a garden.  Maybe a place for a few small houses.

We had six people this time.  The tent was necessary.  This was actually the prettiest day we had all week.  We had a lot of rain so a nice tent was necessary.  The trailer was nice because we were able to get everyone out of the rain and warm when they were not working.

The kids did a lot of playing.

Spring is coming.  That is nice.

We have a computer down again.  It makes it hard to blog but I will try.  I have pictures to share of our week.

for my friend J

Today has been busy.  I finished a dirt bag mattress.  We went to the library to drop off books, dropped off knives so sheathes can be made, and picked up supplies for our road trip.  I started binding Baby Nacho's quilt since all the quilting is done.

And I finished 100 nine squares for my friend J's quilt.  My real goal with this one is to have it done by autumn so J can have something to curl under when she is tired.  She has some chronic health issues.  Kind of like me but different.  She is tired a lot and I thought a bit of warmth would help.  I know when I am tired, it helps me.

I really wanted to get the squares done before we left and I did.  The stitching also helped my head.  I really wanted to not be here.  The mountain would have been great but better if we had a cabin in place.  I just wanted to sit on a porch with my hand wrapped around a tea cup.  And not be in a city.  I will have a little bit of that next week.  I will probably not have any access to my blog but sometimes the satellites line up just right.....

getting there

I worked with my letterpress on Sunday.  Since the last time I did, I read the manual.  I found it online and I learned good things.  I also got more tools.  Some I ordered.  Some I had in the house.  The new paper holders that are soft work really well with the Boxcar base I am using.  I got about 30 business cards printed that I am happy with.  I need to cut more paper to print more and I will need to trim these.  Every time I work with the press, I am getting a little better

This is the tool I am using most often for adjustments, a screwdriver.  I have lived in this world where a 32nd of an inch or a 16th of an inch makes a huge difference before.  But that is usually having to do with the placement of blades on boots.  This will require patience but I will get there.  I possibly may take a class too.  But that would require a road trip.  With where my head is, that may be a good thing!

quiet saturday

It has been a quiet day today.  Small Mister and myself ran errands this morning.  We now have six dozen eggs for travels.  And a complete tent that can sleep six people.  I had to go to three stores to pick up all the pieces.  There is another tent of that same size that I like.  If we need another, I may put that on my list.  We are going up to the land and I can see when we have family visit where two tents and the trailer will be needed.  I heard that there was talks of Sasquatch hunting going on.  The boys make me smile.  What else are you supposed to do in the woods but hunt Sasquatch?  I am working on making sure I have anough yarn which means that I card and spin some each day.  Not very exciting but it needs to be done.

I made sure I had some flowers for myself though.  Soon, I will be planting peonies on the mountain.  I cannot wait!  The deer will love me I know.  They like the sweetness.  But that is life with wildlife.
