back from the wedding

The wedding this weekend was lovely.  A small family wedding where it felt like everyone had known each other for years even if we just met.  Most of us were there for more then one day so the celebration really started two days before and went to the day after.  There was so much laughter and talking, just a very good time.  I came away with a boutonniere because the bride could not see it in the trash.

This shawl was there with me.  I was not the only one with a yarn project but I was the one who took theirs down to the beach.  I am so not surprised and neither was my Beloved.  I sat in the sun.  Waded in the ocean.  Worked on the shawl.  It was a good time and I am deep into the second skein.  I find projects that are more self contained are wonderful for traveling, just like this one.

Now, we are home for awhile.  I have two projects to finish before Thanksgiving week.  One is looking like it will be no problem.  The other may be tight.  We will see.

a sweater for me in progress

I got fussed at, again, this week about not taking care of myself.  About always giving and not receiving.  Well, this one is for me.  I am making myself a cardigan, top down crochet.  I am spinning all the yarn I am using on the smallest drop spindle I have.  I know this is the slowest way to make yarn but it is very meditative.  I also find the drop spinning helps my spinning on the wheel.  I work on this sweater at work because I work on the sweater I am making for my Beloved at home.

I am thinking about making my own wooden buttons for this.  The yarn really deserves something that special.  Or maybe I will be able to find some hand carved horn or bone.  This sweater may really be too warm to wear here except maybe three times a year or in the office.

The process is making me smile.

where the yarn is going

This week I have spent a lot of time at my spinning wheel.  It is the type of space I need back in the city after being on the mountain.  Very meditative.  But what am I doing with this yarn.  I started a sweater for my Beloved.  His mother used to knit but this is the first sweater that has actually been made for him.  He is excited.  Especially since this yarn is full of lanolin and smells like sheep.  He likes both these aspects.

This may not be exciting to anyone but me but I put a bunch of mint in water to keep it fresh.  It has started to create roots!  I am hoping there will be enough to start the mint in pots.  Then, I will try some in the garden again.

It is truly the simple things that make life so good.

a new shawl for me

I have been working on a shawl at work.  I made it from Juniper Moon Farm Findley in the color Frog Back.  There is a lot of greens with a bit of white and purple.  I made sure I had over 1500 yards and used every bit so it is a bit larger then the last one I made from this weight of yarn.

I crochet at work when I am supposed to be taking ergo breaks or am reading something that just does not take two seconds.  I sometimes feel a little bit guilty but rarely.  I do get asked what I am working on.  The next shawl I am working on at work, the yarn is ordered.  Otherwise, I could work on the sock I have there but I do not knit as well as I crochet.

Maybe I should bring in a sweater.  I have this mad idea to make my Beloved and Small Mister matching sweaters from yarn I have spun.  I just need more hours in the day.  I am pretty non-stop now until I fall over.

what I have been doing during videos

This afghan has been my project in the evenings when we watch videos.  It is a granny square pattern from Posie Gets Cozy.  I have tried to chose a grey for the outside edge and my Beloved picks all the other colors.  He really likes the orange and the red.  The pattern actually calls for only 80 squares.  It is one of the reasons I laid it out today.  I wanted to see how big 80 squares was.  Not quite big enough.  I am going to finish 100 and then put it together.  I actually have enough yarn bits (this is really nice for bits) that I will probably make another.  Or find another pattern I like and use that.  I am enjoying this even though I know putting it together is going to be tedious.
