living in the tent house

We are back.  We spent time with family for a funeral.  It was a sad time but good.  Then we spent a week camping at the base of this mountain.

The boyos and I lived in what became known as the tent house in Kyle Canyon.  We went to Death Valley and looked at places I spent time doing field work at over twenty years ago.  We went to the Atomic Testing museum.  My Beloved's grandfather worked on some of those projects.

We found a ski resort and learned to snowboard!  We spent three days on boards on the mountain.  I know I am still getting my energy back and healing all the new bruises and aches but I had so much fun.  I actually skateboarded home from work today so I could be on a board but my bicycle is in the shop.

I am getting my head around being back in the city.  I am not feeling very creative yet, mostly just catching up.  Maybe I will have more words tomorrow.

gardening

I got a chance to play in the garden this weekend before the cold and rain came again.  I was clearing plots and spreading a seeds.  I also bought lots of seeds.  I want more flowers so my seed purchases are heavy on the flowers.

I found the radishes and rutabaga in the picture in the garden.  The very large red plants are radishes.   Not too spicy, which is amazing.  I may get a chance to pickle them, but I may not.  Life has thrown a few curves here recently.  I will be away from this space for a bit as I deal and play a bit.  I hope you get some time with your hands in the soil as well.

while I was playing with infusions

I played with a new margarita recipe when I was working with infusions.  Part of the reason why was because of the infused tequilas I am making and the restaurant we had them at used agave syrup in their recipes.  This was quite good and easy.

simple margarita

2 ounces tequila (I am planning on using a mix of infused tequilas when the infusions are done - my Beloved wants a nettle infused tequila)

3/4 ounce agave syrup

1 ounce lime or citrus juices

Pour into a jar and shake.  Pour over ice.

Enjoy.

stationary

I printed myself stationary today.  I am so pleased.  Just simple cards but it is the style I like for when I write letters.  The trees are not necessarily perfect but they look like real trees!

Three colors.  I am so excited.  I just need envelopes now.

And to design more things that I can letterpress!

the infusing has begun!

Monday night, my Beloved, a friend, and I went out for dinner.  We went to a place that was known for its tacos and infused tequilas.  El Bad Big.  Their tacos are yummy. Their vegetables are fabulous.  And their tequila!  It is wild.  They actually store all the infusing tequila in a three story case so you can peer at it all.  So fun!  But it gave me ideas, especially after having a margarita made with infused tequila.

The boyos and I went to lunch at the liquor store that also has a gourmet grocery and a deli.  I bought tequila for sipping, margaritas, and infusing.

I decided I was going to infuse all of this:  tea, blackberries, coffee, grapefruit, orange peel, ginger, and habanero.

Three days to four weeks.  I get to see how this tastes.  It is how I make my own vanilla but I use rum and vanilla beans.  My sister uses vodka and vanilla beans.  She made some at Christmas and I am excited to try it.

Patience.  I just have to have patience.
