gone rowing

My boat came today!

I am so excited that I can hardly wait until tomorrow.  We are going rowing.  Then, we are going to our friends who have a lake house to go rowing some more.  So, if you do not hear from me tomorrow, you know I tuckered myself out something fierce.

Best birthday present to myself ever!

lbk (lady's boat knife)

I am waiting on the delivery of my open water row boat.  It is scheduled to arrived tomorrow and I cannot be more excited.  I will share it here.  My Beloved made me a knife (his 66th) to take with me when I am rowing.

This is it!  I designed it and he modified the handle.  The knife has a lovely forged blade but he made the comment that he will charge much money if he every makes another (other then the other one that is already forged).  Even though it is a difficult knife, unless you have a four foot Japanese water stone, it feels so good in my hand.  Something that I will take out with me "just in cases."  I am so pleased.

another muslin top

After I put my eyelet top together, I put another together made out of a muslin.  It is very soft.

I changed the closure on the back to a grosgrain ribbon that I had in my ribbon drawer.  I probably should have made the opening on the back a scoop but I really like the slit.  Less skin showing but still a fun closure.  I just do not like showing skin.

I also like how these little tops sit on my body.  I find that I have a hard time finding tops that fit in my skirts unless they are t-shirts which are really not my favorite.  Part of it is I also have a hard time finding blouses that fit my body and shoulders and have not found a good pattern yet.  This works because it sits on top.

In all, it is a good top.

a simple meal

This has become one of our favorite meals lately.  I have been cooking with more vegetables and we like polenta.  I needed to feed us one night and this is what happened.  It is at the top of  my Beloved's list for filling his tummy.

But how do you write a recipe.  It is such a simple thing.  A bowl of polenta.  A bit of brie or any other bits of cheese that need to be used in the frig.  A handful of roasted vegetables - turnip, onion, garlic, golden beet, broccoli, cauliflower.  Add a touch of salt and pepper.  Or maybe even a sprinkle of basil.  Add a pot of tea.  A glass of something sparkly.  A bit of fruit for afters.  Maybe a salad or a bit of bread.  Or just the polenta, cheese, and vegetables.

A simple meal.  Something like MK Fisher writes about.  It feels the soul as well as the tummy.

A late morning of bread making.

The Smallest Short Person was fascinated.
